Bernie's Burger Bus!
In preparation of attending the KSBJ 35th Anniversary Concert in Houston, I researched potential food adventures and came across Bernie's Burger Bus. Their branding, menu, and story had me intrigued. It definitely met expectations.
Everything is school themed and the back of the menus are designed to look like an old school composition journal. Their specials are on a "Field Trip Menu" to enhance the adventurous food options the currently offer.
On the wall next to the booths, there were these cool chalk drawings of the food and drinks they offer. With the cooks firing up the grill located inside a school bus, class is session!
I went with a Class Clown burger with homemade pickles + Truffle-laced fries. Both tasted great! Everything is made from scratch, even the ketchup and mustard. They definitely give every other burger place a run for their money. I thought Shake Shack was really great, but having everything homemade really pushed Bernie's over the edge.
I couldn't leave without trying their shakes...so I went with a classic vanilla shake to-go. (Check out that cool to-go cup!) Another thing that set them apart was their massive straw that comes with the shakes. No more waiting for your shake to melt to enjoy it on-the-go!
The people at the table next to me ordered food to-go and I was shocked that the bags weren't branded! Maybe they were just out of Bernie bags, but they really missed an opportunity to complete the experience if not! Upon researching, I discovered that the branding is done by Make & Matter studio in Austin, TX. I thought it was very interesting that they didn't go with a local agency, but Make & Matter did a premium job!
As for the concert, I'm super curious as to who designs the graphics for concerts. How does one even get that job? I bet that's a thrilling experience!
